The Lie That Will Never Die

For the 4,345,762,976th time, a Beltway Blowhard has regurgitated the BS that the late Pennsylvania governor, Bob Casey Sr., was barred from speaking at the 1992 Democratic National Convention because of his anti-abortion views. This time the liar was Novakula.

Look, this persistent falsehood doesn't even make logical sense. It's simply standard operating procedure for both parties: The first requirement for a speaking role at a national convention is support for the presidential ticket, and Casey refused to endorse Clinton/Gore.

Think about it: Would St. John McCain have been allowed to speak at the 2000 Republican National Convention if he had refused to endorse the Bush/Cheney ticket? And political junkies with long memories are very well aware that presidential candidate Eugene McCarthy was refused a speaking role at the 1968 Democratic National Convention because of his refusal to back the Humphrey/Muskie ticket, not because of his anti-war views.

Tales from the Clusterfrack

Warning: This is an unconfirmed story from an anonymous source about a mercen...I mean "contractor" and his interaction with one of the "natives":

"On [Christmas] eve (2006) here in the Green Zone a Blackwater employee got into a scuffle with an Iraqi personal guard that was guarding a judge and shot him ten times and killed him. The Blackwater employee was drunk. Why did he have his
weapon on him? He has been whisked out of Iraq as fast as possible so the local authorities could not get a hold of him.

Blackwater is trying to keep it all hush-hush so the media doesn't find out about it and dirty their already dirty reputation. Now all the Blackwater employees are pissed off cause they have installed a no alcohol ban on all Blackwater employees.

Spread the word. I hope a reporter gets a hold of this story and runs with it. Please, someone please start asking questions."

Since monchieland does not have a Baghdad bureau, we have to rely on the so-called "liberal media" to chase down this story. I know...I know....reality has a well-known liberal bias, but couldn't you folks check this out?

Is This Thing On?

Been a while since I blogged, so the new year might be a good time to get back in the pool. Hmm, who's that sweaty lunk jogging along the deck? Oh hi, Atrios. And whaddya know, over in the diving area, that hunk John from Americablog is ready to make a plunge from the high board. Lookin' good, John...you gotta do more TV. Oh, and there's Kutie Pie Kos...but he's married. Lucky woman!

Okay, so now I just gotta tread water till I see something that outrages me. Maybe I should check out what Debbie Howell is doing...
