The Lie That Will Never Die

Look, this persistent falsehood doesn't even make logical sense. It's simply standard operating procedure for both parties: The first requirement for a speaking role at a national convention is support for the presidential ticket, and Casey refused to endorse Clinton/Gore.
Think about it: Would St. John McCain have been allowed to speak at the 2000 Republican National Convention if he had refused to endorse the Bush/Cheney ticket? And political junkies with long memories are very well aware that presidential candidate Eugene McCarthy was refused a speaking role at the 1968 Democratic National Convention because of his refusal to back the Humphrey/Muskie ticket, not because of his anti-war views.
